Topics:
Colleen Hoover writes novels with the topic of Romance. In Verity the main topic is about Lowen and Jeremy's complex relationship. In It Ends with Us the main topic is about Lilly and Ryles abusive relationship. Hoover is consistent in making the main topic in her novels some type of drama romance.
Speaker:
Hoover is consistent in writing her novels from a first person point of view. In It Ends with Us, the story is in first person point of view from the main character, Lily. In the novel Verity the story is told in first person point of view by the main character, Lowen. Hoover does this so that readers can see and understand the main character throughout all that they go through.
Tone:
Hoover is consistent in writing with a dark and twisted tone. In It Ends with Us she uses a dark tone. The story is about Ryle abusing Lily. This is a very twisted concept. In Verity, the tone is also very dark. There are autobiographies from Verity in the story where she confessed to killing her daughter, and overall being a bad mom. This gave the novel a dark and sick tone.
Explanation
Topic: I made the topic about romance. Hoover always writes romance novels so I decided to write my story about romance.
Speaker: I wrote my story from a first person point of view. Hoover always writes her stories in a first person point of view. Usually the main character is the one who is speaking in the story so I also did that.
Tone: I made the tone dark and violent. Hoover is known for writing plot twisted dark drama. The speaker killing her boyfriend shows the dark tone that Hoover typically presents in her stories.
I don’t understand how this could have happened. Yesterday we were out on a date and having a great day and now I’m standing over his body watching him slowly die.
We went out to have a few drinks last night. When he was in the bathroom his phone went off. It was another girl. I tried asking him about it and he got extremely upset. I decided I was ready to go home. The ride home was overwhelming. I had a gut feeling that he really was cheating on me. So I looked through everything. I was right. When we got home I packed all of his things and threw them out the door. He kept growing more and more mad, and I did not want him in my home any longer. But, it was starting to get scary. I was upset and just wanted him to leave. He shouldn’t have the right to be mad at me. But he did not want to leave. When I tried to get him out he shoved me. He kept pushing me and punching and kicking me. I didn’t know what to do. I wasn’t strong enough for this. I thought I was about to die. I couldn’t let him win. I was screaming and crying. I look out of the corner of my eye. I see the knives right on the counter above me. It’s my only way out. I have to move quickly. I quickly got up, grabbed the knife and stabbed him. I wish there would have been another way out. But I know there wasn't. It was either going to be me or him.
Now, I’m just looking at him. I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do or how to fix this. All I know is that I had to protect myself from him. The only way to do that was to unfortunately kill him.
